YMGC youth group spotlight

On May 4th 2017 I had the pleasure of attending the SFXyouth night which is based at St Francis Xavier Parish in Lurnea. The leadership team consists of Joyce Mondalek, Janice Tran (YMGC participants season 1) and Merwyn Monteiro (YMGC graduate season 1).

The night started off with people playing table tennis and working out maths equations on the other side of the whiteboard. The focus of the night was based on a video created by ALPHA which was about the identity of Jesus.

The discussion questions we were asked was if we had ever encountered a celebrity? What makes Jesus a famous person? and what parts of Jesus life stand out to you? We realised during our group discussion that SFX youth is home to Chloe Esposito who had claimed Australia’s first gold medal in modern pentathlon at the 2016 Rio Olympics. We also learned about how Jesus name can be used as a cuss word or as a prayer.

The night ended with some pizza and writing out answers on the whiteboard about who Jesus is. At the end of the night we realised that Jesus is a simple and complex person as people have different definitions about him based on their life experiences.

I would like to thank the SFXyouth leadership team for a great night. If you would like to know more about SFXyouth, you can visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SFXYouthLurnea/
